Ludic Method Soirée. An artivist research lectures series in playful formats.

Eva Fischer & Martina Menegon. Social Distancing – Virtual Bonding.
Case study CIVA: Curating as play in Hybrid spaces?

18 May, 2021, 19:00 h, via Zoom

hosted by Prof. Margarete Jahrmann, artistic research PhD program, Zentrum Fokus Forschung, University of Applied Arts Vienna

The theory and practice of artistic research are concerned with specific ways to approach art, society, cultures and epistemic things – in short Ludic objects! Their objectives are presented in playful formats and/or discuss such approaches of making things public.

In the course of the Ludic Soiree, the two CIVA curators Eva Fischer and Martina Menegon present artistic research questioning whether and how current technologies enable us to remain virtually connected to each other in times of physical distancing, or whether it is possible to build new international networks and communities with these technologies. The works presented will be focusing on contemporary ways of exhibiting and performing in the virtual, taking up elements of their actual multicultural approach in a participatory festival format in times of regulations of public spaces… but also in the potential of a social bonding as new and positive experience!

Martina Menegon is an artist working with Interactive and Extended Reality Art. In her works, Martina creates intimate and complex assemblages of physical and virtual elements that explore the contemporary self and its synthetic corporeality. She experiments with the uncanny and the grotesque, the self and the body and the dialogue between the physical and the virtual realities, to create disorienting experiences that become perceivable despite their virtual nature. She is currently Head of Extended Reality and Curator at the “Area for Virtual Art” a platform for immersive experiences and get-togethers founded by sound:frame and Pausanio. www.martinamenegon.com
In their current project CIVA Festival, Vienna’s new media art festival (hosted by the platform sound:frame) they aim to show the potential of artistic approaches in interaction with science, technology and sociopolitical issues. At the core of the festival is the desire to build a strong network, to be a well-functioning platform for a growing international community, and to create joyful, low-threshold access for visitors of all backgrounds.
