The Zentrum Fokus Forschung supports the doctoral programmes offered by the University of Applied Arts Vienna – both the scientific doctorates (natural sciences, philosophy, technical sciences) as well as the artistic research doctorates (PhD in Art).
Each PhD programme lasts a minimum of 6 semesters with the aim of conducting independent research on the dissertation topic. The doctoral candidates are supervised by a scientist or artist employed by the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
For further information on the scientific and artistic doctoral programmes, please see the corresponding sub-sections.
Tuition fees
Citizens of any EU/EEA country or Switzerland only pay the obligatory Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) membership fee per semester, provided they complete their studies within the minimum duration plus two additional “tolerance” semesters.
Students without EU/EEA citizenship generally pay EUR 746.92 per semester (non-EU/EEA tuition fee, including the fee of the Austrian National Union of Students [ÖH]). Exempted from this rule are students with citizenship of a country listed in Annex 3 of the StubeiV – they only pay the currently applicable ÖH fee per semester. Please find detailed information on tuition fees here.
Funding opportunities for doctoral programmes
The University of Applied Arts Vienna offers all doctoral students the necessary infrastructure for their studies as well as guidance and advice. Students must, however, independently secure the funding for their research projects. Please see Scholarships and Grants for potential funding sources.
