Marianna Mondelos – Artistic Research PhD in Art

Seit April 2022 bietet die Reihe „IMZENTRUM“- vorerst monatlich geplant – am Zentrum Fokus Forschung, im für Fritz Wotruba konzipierten Atelier und seinem weitläufigen Garten im Wiener Prater, eine Veranstaltungsbühne zur unmittelbaren Begegnung mit Kunst und Forschung. Nah und in Echtzeit, in Resonanz von sound- und performancekünstlerischen Explorationen können zusammen Impulse entwickelt, erfahren und darauf reagiert werden.

Artists

Peter Moosgaard wurde 1983 in Horn (NÖ) geboren. Zunächst studierte er Philosophie und Sprachwissenschaft in Wien, ab 2006 Mediengestaltung an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst bei Peter Weibel. Er ist Mitbegründer des Verlags TRAUMAWIEN für digitale Literatur und Storytelling, bei dem auch sein Buch „Turbogott“ (2010) erscheint. Zwischen 2007–2012 richtete er seinen Fokus auf internationale Projekte mit der sozial-aktivistischen Künstler*innengruppe WochenKlausur.

Peter Moosgaards künstlerische Positionen gelten als radikal und subtil-humorvoll zugleich. Vergangene Projekte wie „BAUHAUS Ayoke“ oder „Supercargo“ erregten bereits das Interesse des Marina Abramovic Insitituts, Jeu de Paume Paris, MAK, Ars Electronica und des Palais des Beaux Arts. Arbeitsmaterial sind die digitale Wirklichkeit und deren Utopien, die er jedoch stets kritisch hinterfragt und immer auf neue künstlerische Möglichkeiten untersucht.

Er zeigte Arbeiten in über 80 Gruppen und 6 Einzelaustellungen im In- und Ausland, etwa Ars Electronica, Jeu de Paume Paris, Sight & Sound Montreal, Forum Stadtpark Graz, Media-Art Club Marseille (2016) sowie Vorträge im internationalen Feld. 2012 erhielt er sein Diplom in Digitaler Kunst an der Angewandten bei Filmemacher Virgil Widrich. 2018 bekam er das Staatsstipendiat für bildende Kunst.

Andreas Trobollowitsch is a Vienna-based electroacoustic musician, composer and sound artist. He studied musicology and jazz theory in Vienna and Paris, and wrote his thesis about the spatial approach in the compositions of Stockhausen and Cage. Trobollowitsch works extensively in the fields of electroacoustic composition and improvisation, and has composed for dance, theatre, film and radio. In his works, he mainly uses modified fans, guitars, tapes and field recordings. Recently he has been focusing primarily on conceptual compositions, sound installations and self-developed musical instruments. He has released CDs and DVDs on schraum, Monotype, Filmarchiv Austria, cronica records, and has been awarded the State Scholarship for Composition, the Start Stipendium for music and performing arts, as well as numerous commissions and grants. He is one of the SHAPE artists performing at Novas Frequencias in Rio de Janeiro.

Contingent Agencies is an artistic research project conceived as an inquiry into atmospheres — the subtle, dynamic, complex, and enveloping presences that emerge in given situations for those who inhabit them. More particularly, this project investigates the specific ways in which the agencies of single components of a situation (from light to animals, artifacts to sounds, matter to vegetation, traffic to color …) condition the emergence of these all-over and senseful presences.

In this concluding symposium, a cross-disciplinary group of researchers will address this complex subject matter as well as the specific research methodology developed in this project, based on practices of notation and reflection in diverse media. Participant researchers will be Karen Barad, Arno Boehler, Emma Cocker, Gerhard Dirmoser, Mika Elo, Tim Ingold, Sabina Holzer, Paula Kramer, Lambros Malafouris, Erin Manning, Dieter Mersch, Hans Jörg Rheinberger, and Andreas Spiegl, together with the principal investigators Nikolaus Gansterer and Alex Arteaga and the head of the Zentrum Fokus ForschungAlexander Damianisch.

Agencies and atmospheres will be inquired from a multi-perspective approach with contributions from artistic research (somatics, choreography, drawing, sound, video, photography, language-based practices) philosophy, archeology, anthropology and physics. The symposium is conceived as an intensive research week that includes micro-workshops, practice sessions, public lectures, panel discussions (both accessible onsite and online), and showings of artifacts.
