Eva Weinmayr

An intersectional feminist approach to publishing

It’s not only about what I share, but how I share it

Eva Weimayr will draw on her collective artistic practice concerned with the micro-politics of sharing and publishing from an intersectional-feminist perspective. She will discuss the various moves that are needed when we shift our focus away from output-based approaches towards collective processes, exchanges, and relationships that publishing practices can enable.

Eva Weinmayr’s artistic practice is situated at the interface of art and radical education and institutional analysis. Her focus is on decolonial and feminist-intersectional discourses, pedagogies, and art practices. From 2019 to 22 she co-led the EU-funded collective research and study programme “Teaching to Transgress Toolbox” inspired by US activist, teacher and theorist bell hooks. She published (Noun to Verb, HDK-Valand Gothenburg, 2020) concerned with the micropolitics of publishing from an intersectional perspective and co-initiated during her time as interims chair of faculty Art and Education at Munich Art Academy (2022-23)  kritilab, an open source platform for discrimination-critical teaching in the arts.

Her current research, Ecologies of Dissemination, a collaboration with Femke Snelting, seeks a politics of sharing and reuse that address universalisms and power imbalances in Free Culture and Open Access acknowledging the ways universal access policies might overlook relational aspects. Recent artistic research-based projects include “Teaching the Radical Catalog – a Syllabus” (2021-22, with Lucie Kolb), “Library of Inclusions and Omissions” (2016-20), “The Piracy Project ” (2010-15, with Andrea Francke), AND Publishing  (2010-ongoing, with Rosalie Schweiker). Eva exhibited at Biennale di Venezia, National Gallery Warsaw, Art Museum St. Louis, Whitechapel Gallery, SALT Istanbul and published with small independent presses and big institutional publishing houses.

Eva is currently Visiting Professor at Institute Experimental Design and Media Cultures, Basel Academy of Art and Design, Postdoc at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design, Gothenburg, and Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Postdigital Cultures, Coventry University (UK).
